The Vines of Mendoza

2007 Mariflor Pinot Noir Uco Valley, Mendoza

Michel Rolland's desire to produce a world-class Pinot Noir has brought him to Argentina's Uco Valley, the highest vineyard site in all of Mendoza. Grown at an astounding 3,600 feet above sea level, these delicately nurtured Pinot grapes produce an intense wine drinking experience at every level. Deep magenta in color, the bouquet springs to life with cranberry, pine cone, and damp earth aromas. Dark, powerful flavors of black cherry, mushroom, and pepper show the brawnier side of Pinot, but the finish still expresses the finesse and elegance sought from the grape's finest examples. A beautiful Pinot from one of the wine world's most influential producers.

2005 Val de Flores Malbec

92 points - Stephen Tanzer
"Bright ruby. Lovely lift to the complex aromas of black raspberry, minerals, graphite, mocha and sexy new french oak. Suave on entry, then smooth and seamless in the middle, with complex flavors of dark berries, minerals and chocolate; harmonious acids and saline, mineral and herbal nuances contribute freshness and complexity. This boasts uncanny delineation and verve for a wine with 15.4% Alcohol. Finishes with sweet tannins and excellent subtle lingering flavor. With 48 hours in the recorked bottle, this showed an almost liqueur-like quality but with an enticing floral topnote."

Food pairing:  Spicy cocoa dusted filet mignon with caramelized pears and onions
