It's World Malbec Day, and while we think every day is the perfect day to open a quality bottle of Malbec, we're joining the party and uncorking a few extra bottles today. So, we talked to our sommelier Martin Krawczyk about his favorites and he pulled together the following recommendations for fabulous Malbecs worth celebrating around the world…
Bacan Reserva Malbec 2007
A wine that is comprises our flagship varietal, Bacán is a word used in lunfardo - the tango language - to define a man that is gallant with the women, loves parties and good wine, so what a better than to celebrate! Inky violet color, with blueberry cola and black licorice that swirl enticingly in the nose. Sweet and dark at the same time; hints of caramel and green mint with a smooth juiciness that leaves your mouth yearning for more. Expresses the natural acidity from the grapes with an integrated oak expression of vanilla and toasted caramel.

Cuvelier Los Andes Grand Malbec 2008
Only 8,200 bottles were produced by the French Cuvelier Family. Located in the Clos de los Siete project, just minutes away from our vineyard, this wine was carefully handled using French winemaking techniques. An Argentinian Malbec with a French spirit. This elegant and classic wine is structured like a good school teacher. It has a lot to teach you about terroir and nuance. The Malbec is dark with extracted colors and a spicy nose, and evolves in the mouth with lovely fruit, delicate essences of cinnamon, clove, black pepper and dulce de leche. Its refined touch yet lovely tannins rounds out through the finish.

Tierra De Dioses 2008
Pablo Martorell, our head winemaker at The Vines of Mendoza, makes his very own wine in the project called Tierra de Dioses. An interesting Malbec that shows the know how that Pablo has been achieved working in the Uco Valley for more than fifteen years. Intense and complex nose. Aromatic, spices, ripe red fruits, gentle oak notes, cinnamon, cedar, black currants, and even floral hints too. Great mouthfeel, full bodied, medium plus acidity, long, velvety. An elegant, amazing wine.

Lindaflor La Violeta 2007
La Violeta is named after La Violette, one of Catherine Peré –Vergé’s - owner of Bodega Monteviejo - Châteaux in Pomerol, France. It was fermented using the barrel fermentation technique in 225-liter French oak barrels and it was aged for 36 months in brand-new French oak barrels. Barrel fermentation gives the wine the perfect balance between the oak and the grape tannins. It is very concentrated in color, with intense, bright ruby and tones of purple. Earth, black fruits, violets, and mint in the nose, and powerful coffee, toast, dark chocolate, blackberry and licorice in the mouth make La Violeta a complex wine – that’s for sure! Lush, overwhelming … delicious.
