The Vines of Mendoza’s winemaker, Pablo Martorell, is young but accomplished, with high marks from Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast for The Vines’ Recuerdo Wines. Born and raised in Tunuyán just minutes from our vineyard, he has worked at some of the most acclaimed wineries in Mendoza, including Bodega Nieto Senetiner, Catena Zapata, Trivento and Bodega Flecha de los Andes, under Michel Rolland’s tutelage. In 2006 he worked with Chateau de Lauret in Pomerol, Bordeaux, and in 2007, for Chateau Peyre Lebade and Chateau Clarke in Medoc, Bordeaux, both part of the Rothschild Group.
Question 1: What is your best Recuerdo at The Vines?
Harvest 2010 – our first harvest. We were making our first wines and completing winery construction simultaneously. In the end we succeeded and all the owners were thrilled with the quality of the wines, and we were too. At The Vines we challenge ourselves, we succeed, and we celebrate.
Question 2: Are there any winery rituals?
Three times a week, as a winery team, we taste through a portion of the barrels. It’s a proud moment where we realize the results of our teamwork.
