Why Private Vineyards at The Vines Are Unique

The secret to a wine’s identity begins with its origins: the soil

The Vines is situated in Los Chacayes –53 miles southwest of the city of Mendoza– at the foothills of the Andes, in the renowned Uco Valley, which is widely regarded as Argentina’s most prestigious wine-producing region.

Elevation: 1,000 to 1,200 meters above sea level (3,300 to 4,000 feet). High-altitude terroir contributes to intense sunlight, large diurnal temperature shifts, and concentrated grape flavors.

Size & Vineyards: 1,500 acres total. Over 900 acres planted with 340 private vineyard lots, owned by wine lovers from around the world.

Grape Varietals Planted: 37 wine varietals planted. The most planted varieties are Malbec (flagship varietal of Argentina), Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Torrontés.

The Uco Valley offers exceptional conditions for winemaking, with over 250 sunny days a year and a mild average temperature of 14°C (57°F). High elevations (900–1,200 meters) create dramatic temperature shifts between day and night, enhancing sugar, acid, and flavor development in the grapes. Low annual rainfall—just 280–300 mm (11–11.8 inches)—paired with pure Andean meltwater irrigation ensures precise vine care. Rocky, well-draining soils naturally stress the vines, leading to grapes of remarkable quality. The region’s dry climate, steady winds, and intense sunlight also make it ideal for organic and low-intervention viticulture.
The Vines’ soils, shaped by ancient rivers, glaciers, and volcanic forces, are the foundation of extraordinary winemaking. Each of the property’s three soil types tells a unique story:

Type I: rugged soils which produce bold, complex wines;
Type II: balanced soils yield smooth, elegant expressions;
Type III: more nutrient-rich soils than the two previous types which nurture vibrant, aromatic grapes.

Together, they create wines that capture the essence of the Andes and the artistry of Argentine winemaking.

Making the best wine possible

“Our goal for winemaking is simple – to make the best wine possible. At The Vines we knew we could make wine from the same vineyard that produces wines that are among the top ranked by Wine Advocate. Who knew that along the way, we would also discover gorgeous wide open spaces and meet a fabulous team who have become our very good friends.”

Michael & Caprice Brochu, Seattle

Impressing the most discriminating wine drinkers

“Husk is our Charleston, South Carolina restaurant that has been a top ranked location by Bon Appetit for the past two years, so our wines have to be top quality. Angel Oak, our wine made at The Vines, has been extremely popular at Husk as well as McCrady’s, our other award winning restaurant.”

Nigel Cooper, Buenos Aires & Charleston

Achieving lifelong goals

“From the time I was a child and I heard of my grandfather producing his own wine, I dreamed of making my own wine, but I never thought this dream could be a reality. When I visited Mendoza, I found The Vines and was able to realize my dream in a location more beautiful than I thought possible.”
